How Far Away Should LED Lights Be Away from Cannabis Plants?

TUBU wouldn't recommend a single distance for all LED lights and cannabis plants. Different 240W LED models can have varying light intensity (PPFD) outputs. A high-intensity 240W light might require more distance than a lower-intensity one. Growth stage matters, Seedlings and clones need less intense light compared to flowering plants. The ideal distance needs to be adjusted throughout the growth cycle.

TUBU Recommends for Optimal Results with a 240W LED Light

Refer to your light's specifications - Most reputable LED grow light manufacturers provide recommended hanging heights for different PPFD levels. This is the best starting point.

Monitor your plants - Observe your cannabis for signs of light stress. Light stress can manifest as curling leaves, bleached or discolored foliage, and slowed growth. If you see these signs, increase the distance between the light and your plants.

Use a PPFD meter (optional) - This handy tool measures the amount of usable light (photosynthetic photon flux density) reaching your plants. Aim for the recommended PPFD range for each growth stage (see our previous FAQ for details).

General guideline for 240W LED lights and cannabis, but remember to prioritize the manufacturer's recommendations and adjust based on your specific light and plant observations.

Seedlings & Clones - Start with a distance of 24-30 inches from the light source.

Vegetative Stage - As your plants mature, adjust the light to 18-24 inches for even coverage.

Flowering Stage - Move the light closer, aiming for 12-18 inches to maximize bud development.
